Thank you Adi, Josten and Gina, for your comments. You're right, positive thinking can give us the energy and confidence to set goals and work to achieve them.

Yes, I agree with Kelly. We all know positive thinking DOES work... If Stuart Smalley said his daily affirmations and then when about his day making over opinionated comments, behaving selfishly and treating others in a rude, cold manner, indeed, no one would like him no matter how many times he repeated ???everybody likes me ". Americans are lazy and the reason why they misunderstood the ' Secret ' is because they did not WANT to take ACTION... Throughout the movie ' taking ACTION ' was reemphasized more than once... Somehow the lazy, naive poor souls didn't get that part... If people feel they can lose weight by visualizing and not eating right or exercising... no one is to blame ( not the 'Secret ' or another author/ speaker ) but their own ignorance...

Not as eloquent at Kelly... sorry

Yep,

Lots of people (including Brian Tracy in his book - Eat The Frog) talk about the benefits of setting small goals to get out of depression. Each time we finish a small task, our subconscious mind gives us a small dose of endorphins that makes us happier. (Big task = more endorphins).

I agree that one can not exist on magical thinking alone, thought must precede action. It does though, all begin in your head. If you think you can't do it, you likely won't. Many of the principles of "The Secret" were misunderstood by masses of people who heard, but did not listen. You won't find that job if you don't feel worthy and then don't bother to look or apply. One cannot survive on optimism alone, there must be a belief in yourself, active perseverance towards your dreams and goals, make a plan, give your effort and take action.

Good point about self-affirmation without positive action. Thanks for your comment.

Thank you for the 'positive' dose of realism! Great article. I like your encouragement for us to take small steps and then congratulate ourselves (rather than walking around affirming ourselves - and not accomplishing more than that)!

What a realistic view you have offered the masses who can no longer decipher truth from magical thinking! Perhaps the 'Secret' is "get a reality check from a really good friend" who, by the way, knows the real balance in their check book!
