Client Testimonial
by Aleta Daria, founder of Artlita
December 2018 I realized that I was going through an existential crisis and decided to invest in self-introspection so that I could shift gears and redesign my career, which had been on the same path for 25 years. The question was – what did I want to do for the next 25 years?
I started searching for a program that would help facilitate this exploration and came across Dr. Gina Simmons’ Psychology Today listing. Dr. Simmons put me through a multi-faceted protocol that helped me to find where my talents, experience, and interests align. Having had a successful 25-year healthcare career, primarily focusing on SaaS sales for dermatologists and consulting to increase revenue for plastic surgeons, I was totally surprised when she shared that I had the most in common with artists and artistic people. The group I had the second most in common with were sales managers, CEOs, entrepreneurs, and politicians, which was more in alignment with my existing career.
For the next month she helped me brainstorm how to find a way to connect those two halves of myself and the idea of founding Artlita, an online art gallery focused on Southern & Baja California artists, was born. Having painted in my spare time I was struck by how meaningful it would be to help artists make a living at something they love to do, which is what I was striving to do in my own life. Since I knew how to sell and had a passion for the artwork they were creating it just made sense.
When I shared the idea with Dr. Simmons and told her I was planning on hiring an entrepreneur’s coach, since I had never attempted to found a company before, I was surprised and thrilled when she told me about SCORE – the Senior Core of Retired Executives. I almost couldn’t believe that there was a group of highly experienced executives and entrepreneurs who were excited to help me successfully launch my business – for FREE.
I launched Artlita on Feb 8, 2020. While this is just the beginning of my adventure in entrepreneurship, and I continue to work in my former career while I build my business, I’m reinvigorated and feel purposeful and empowered. If you’re seeking clarity and purpose, I encourage you to invest in yourself and go through the Career Guidance program.
